We went on tour today to all 6 of Charlottesville City's Elementary Schools to present a play that we created based on the book One, by Katherine Otoshi! If you haven't read it, the book uses colors and numbers to present a story about inclusion, kindness, and saying NO to bullying! The students have been working during the past several weeks to create the performance. They really stepped up to create their rendition of the book with lots of clever ideas and great teamwork. They all came to school on time today in their costumes, excited to go back to their former elementary schools. They buzzed all day over town, with little time before each performane and just a few minutes to reflect after each show. Our narrators led the elementary students in discussion about how it feels to be bullied, why bullies bully, and what they can do to get help if they experience or witness bullying. We even talked to NBC29 News! It was a busy day! We want to extend a special thank you to all of the schools who hosted us- especially the school counselors who helped to coordinate the events and who spread this message daily in our city schools. Also, thank you to the teachers and administrators who work so hard for the kids. And of course, thanks to the fabulous Walker School counselor, Mr. K, who supported us today and everyday!
We were also treated to a special Bodos lunch by my dad, Chuck Lebo and his company, Lebo Commercial Properties. That was very generous, dad. The kids felt so cool eating at Bodos together on a school day. The Peace Squad thanks you! |
